In today’s complex world, addictive behaviours are increasingly common. Sometimes they stem from external substances, but often they arise from the brain’s own reward system. Central to this process is dopamine, and in this discussion, we will explore the role of dopamine and consider whether – and how it may be possible to moderate such behaviours.
